For anything listed below: Things in RED are things that you must bring. Things in Green are optional but let Nick know if you are not bringing it. You are apart of an MDF event, it is expected that you read everything in its entirety. Must do before event Checklist:
- Hunting license
- Deer tag (antlerless tag)
- Confirm zero on rifle (using your rifle—see below). There is a range nearby for the ability to confirm zero but it is unethical to hunt before confirmation.
- Rifle (see below)
- If using a semi-auto rifle:
- Using a magazine, it must have a capacity of 10 rounds or less.
- Don’t use a magazine.
- If using a semi-auto rifle:
- Ammunition (1 box).
- Soft point or hunting Hollow Point
- Not FMJ bullets.
- Knife (for skinning and/or gutting deer.
- Hunters orange hat and vest.
- If you plan on purchasing, I recommend buying around Thanksgiving, goes on sale for like 90% off.
- Headlamp or flashlight that you can clip onto a hat.
- Food
- Camping gear (shelter, chair, food prep gear, etc)
- Cooler (doesn't have to be a big one)
- 1gallon ziplock bags (a box of 40ish should be good). You need Freezer bags. I recommend the Ziploc brand bags.
- Hot hands (for hands and feet) weather depending.
- Pad to keep you off the ground (so you don’t get body heat sucked out of you). Anything works.
Misc:
- Remember that you will be sitting so dress extra warm. You will get warm walking to your hunting place so you don’t want to sweat.
- If you are attending and have not hunted before, please contact Nick (if you haven’t already done so) so that appropriate accommodations can be made for the most success for you.
- The AR caliber (.223/5.56 NATO) is not recommended for hunting. If you do not have a rifle in a larger caliber please let Nick know so that extra Rifles can be provided.
